Stan Gill

Keyboards, Woodwinds and Vocals

Stan has been behind the keyboard ever since he could sit still. He picked up sax and flute just after high school, which is still further back than he wants to admit. A professional roadie turned stage performer, Stan might be familiar to you 70's fanatics as "Uncle Yknik," the loveable curmudgeon stage manager from Head East's never ending Deen Bonboj tour. And if you detect a little soul in Stan's keyboard, it comes from a regular gig at church on Sunday mornings.

Stan's other past projects and bands include:

Although Stan carries the latest in Kurzweil keyboards on the road, he's still more at home at a baby grand or a B-3. "I love the sound of the new stuff, and you can close your eyes and almost hear a real piano or organ, strings, horns, be-bop voices, just about anything," he says, " but nothing matches the texture of genuine wood."

Stan joined The Excelerators in October of 2001 upon suggestion by Joe Miller to give the band a listen. Stan was and continues to work with Full-Tilt, a tremendously gifted jazz fusion group in the St. Louis area, but he felt he would have the time to devote himself to playing out at about the twice per month clip that The Excelerators run.
